Wilton is nestled in the Norwalk River Valley in western Connecticut. Located in Fairfield County, Wilton is north of the City of Norwalk, west of the Town of Weston, and east of the Town of New Canaan. Wilton's 17,633 residents live in an area of 26.8 sq. miles. Wilton is 55 miles from midtown Manhattan and is within easy driving distance from Westchester County, New York. The Town is accessible from routes 7, 33, 106, and 107. Wilton is only one hour from Grand Central Station on the New Haven Line Danbury branch of Metro-North Railroad, which runs daily commuter service. In April 1995, Connecticut Magazine named Wilton the top overall town in its size group.

History

The town of Wilton is located in Fairfield County in the southwestern portion of the state known as the Norwalk River Valley. In 1802 the General Assembly declared Wilton a separate township from Norwalk. In 1777 the Revolutionary War made its mark on the town when the British set fire to several homes after they retreated from their raid on Danbury. The early years of the Industrial era mostly bypassed the small farming community and it would not be until later that light industry appeared in the town. Today, the town is a mix of 18th- and 19th - century homes and small subdivisions. Careful zoning laws adopted in the 20th century help the Recreational Facilities Wilton Parks and Recreation will be opening its fitness center to the public starting January 3rd. The fitness center will give people the opportunity to increase their strength, tone and firm their bodies, improve their cardiovascular system, look great, feel good, and have more energy. Whatever your reasons or fitness goals are, the Wilton Park and Recreation Fitness Center will help you achieve them. For ages 16 and over.
